Wow! Where has the month of January gone? Time has flown by here at Photo Source. It seems many of our clients were burning the candle at both ends from December thru the beginning weeks of January finalizing their literature and catalogs for 2007. We have made every deadline, and hope you did too.
Photo Source has efforts to invest in new technology in order to stay current with high-end digital photography. Among our newest investments is a Raid file server. The Raid is a stabilized data storage unit configured for 1.5 terabytes of image data. That's 1,500,000 mega bytes! The equivalent to approximately 19,000 high resolution digital photo files or 2,027 FULL CDs of high resolution images. This capacity helps to keep things running quickly and allows for plenty of precious reliable archive space.
Also as promised last year, we have added additional new electronic flash units, which helps us to deliver the most accurate color and exposure critical in today’s digital photography.
With the many advancements in today’s printing world, I am excited to announce that Photo Source has made a consorted effort to study this area this year. We are teaming with various experts on color management
|
and committing considerable time and resources, so that we may better understand and facilitate color reproduction in print. Photo Source promises to deliver the finest in creative high-resolution digital
photography today and be knowledgeable with regards to the technological and stylistic trend advancements in our industry.

I have lots of unanswered questions about all things photographic -not just compositional, traditional film camera and lighting questions but also technical, photo shop, digital and licensing questions. Where can I find the answers to all my burning photography questions?

Barbara Jaffe: Dark Sun
The photographs in Dark Sun are negative prints; in this reversed black and white image a duplicate but opposite world is revealed that is self-luminous, radiating rather than reflecting light. The May Photography Gallery is located on the second floor of the Sverdrup Building in Webster
Groves, MO

Abstractions in Amercian Photography
This exhibition of nine photographs from the Museum's collection explores the potential for abstraction in photography. Created between the early 1940s and the early 1960s, these images were largely produced in association with the influential photography program at the Institute of Design in Chicago. They highlight different techniques for pursuing abstraction, from formal exercises generated in the darkroom to spiritual explorations of the physical world. The exhibition complements the featured exhibition Action/Abstraction: Pollock, de Kooning and American Art, 1940–1976, on view in the Main Exhibition Galleries Through January 11, 2009.

I am a senior attending Webster University and currently interning at Photo Source. I chose the photography field because I like the reactions to photos people have. That image could be the difference between someone buying one item over another or that reassurance that this will work. It also allows people step in my shoes and view things the way I do. I chose to intern at Photo Source because of the type of photography that the studio does. I am drawn to advertising because the message it tells people. I want to be able to sell a product or entrée without ever having to meet or even talk to the person, and with advertising photography that’s possible. I myself am a visual person when it
comes to making a purchase so that's why I am intrigued
by it so much. Before starting this internship my mind was set that I wanted to do strictly food photography and being here has given me the opportunity to open up to all aspects of advertising photography.
I hope one day to work in a studio like Photo Source.

Can someone tell me how it is already 2007? How come as you get older the years seem to go by faster and faster? It seems as though yesterday was Thanksgiving and now we are already in February. Were does the time go?
It makes me wonder if I am making the most of my time... Am I learning that foreign language, mastering the violin or crossing off any of those items on my "Things I would like to do" list? Everyone has one of those lists. But how many of us really do all those things? Our lives seem to be so occupied by all those day to day things which are necessary for today's comforts. It seems as though the more modern day "comforts" we have, the less time for ourselves we can enjoy. We are too overwhelmed with working, commuting, cleaning the house, grocery shopping, etc. I constantly feel busy, but with nothing to make note of. So what is the answer?
I am beginning to think that a simple life is the way to go. Don't clutter things up. Turn off the T.V, leave the dusting for tomorrow and go take some time for you. As far as I know, the world won't end if you can see dust on your bookcase. So go see that exhibit that you have been wanting to see. Spend some time with that friend you haven't seen in you don't know how long. What will you remember more one year from now? That your kitchen floor was sparkling on February 12th or the way that trip to the art museum inspired you to create your favorite painting to date? During my meager 34 years on earth I have learned that life is short. I know it has been said many times before by those much wiser than myself, but I for one want to make the most of it. So if you will excuse me, I need to go and do one of those things on my list.

Bob, not your everyday fish |
|
If you didn't already know, Bob is the official Photo Source Mascot. Bob is a female Central American Midas Cichlid. Not just your ordinary fish, Bob is very social and will swim to greet any visitors. She likes to occupy her time re-decorating her tank. (Yes she actually picks up rocks in her mouth and moves them around her tank). She also enjoys exercising by playing with various homemade toys. Don't believe us? Check out the
Bob video and web page at our web site or drop in for a visit sometime - she loves company!
